KOCHI:  Contributions of noted film director, P N Menon, were highlighted at the Smrithy Dhara organised on his first death anniversary here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the function organised by Orthic Creative Centre and School of Media Studies at Nanappa Art Gallery, director K G George said that Menon had contributed immensely towards the growth of Malayalam film industry. He said Menon had given him vital suggestions at crucial times during the making of films.

George said he considered himself blessed to work with Menon for about seven years, during which he had learnt immensely.

In his welcome address, scriptwriter John Paul said that the south Indian film industry had gained immensely from Menon’s works.

John Paul said that Menon’s love for films was so much that he used to give directions to technicians even while he was bed-ridden during his last days.

Paul said that Menon, who was also a popular art director, had created revolution in South Indian film industry.

Lalitha Kala Academy Chairman C N Karunakaran said that Kerala should never forget the contributions of Menon.

He said that Menon had reached the maximum heights a director would dream to reach. Journalist K M Roy demanded a code of conduct for the film directors. He said Menon’s films reflected the true culture of Kerala. The celebration will be held until September 13 at the Nanappa Art Gallery.

Various films like Panimudakku, Mazhakkaru, Chembarathy and Nerkuner will be screened at 6.30 pm.

Exhibition of paintings will also be held from 10 am to 7 pm.
