KOZHIKODE: Taking excerpts from different stories of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, Education Minister M A Baby said that Basheer’s stories explained complex things in common man’s language.

He was inaugurating the concluding ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations of Basheer here on Sunday.  “We are attracted to the writings of Basheer and everyone will read his books several times. When people in different generations read the same book several times, the book can be called a classic. Then all of the Basheer’s books are classics,” he said.

Another major trademark of Basheer is his witty remarks as he would comment on most of the happenings in the world. If he had lived at the present age, he would have commented on the attack on college professor at Thodupuzha with his remarks that would make us ponder over the issue, he said.

The minister added that the lecturer did ‘moronic’ acts and the incident of chopping off his hand was ‘sorrowful and unfortunate’.  The ‘Basheerian phrases’ are well thought remarks and through his stories he depicted his love for nature, he said. “He actually made us think about the serious situations through simpler language.”

He used his creativity for social satire about several problems that persisted in society, he said.

Fabi Basheer, wife of Muhammad Basheer, P Valsala, magician Pradeep Hudino, writer K P Ramanunni, critic K E N Kunhahammed and Anis Basheer, son of Muhammad Basheer, were present on the occasion.
