THRISSUR: M N Vijayan was a rare person who never compromised on ideologies and was successful in influencing the issues related to the common man as a radical thinker, literary critic, teacher and cultural commentator, poet and social activist K G Sankara Pillai has said.

He was speaking at a programme organised to mark M N Vijayan’s third death anniversary held at the Thrissur Press Club here on Sunday.

“Vijayan, a person who understood the core values of democracy and freedom, was largely instrumental in introducing and elucidating radical and humanist literary and philosophic works and modern approaches to Malayalam readers,”

Pillai said. His determination and ‘never-compromising’ stand might be the reasons why political parties eluded him at a crucial time.

Delivering the keynote address, Padhom Prathikarana Vedi activist S Sudheesh said that the Communist party had become a social front affected by debility.

Thonnakkal Vasudevan, Press Club president Joy M Mannur, secretary R Rajmohan, Viji Thambi, P N Gopikrishnan and others spoke.

A book, ‘M N Vijayante Lokangal’ was released at the programme.
