KOLLAM: CPI control commission chairman and state executive committee member K C Pillai passed away at a private hospital in Kochi on Monday. The 77-yr-old leader was under treatment for the past few days at a private hospital here for stomach-related ailment and was shifted to a hospital in Kochi on Monday.  He breathed his last around 1.30 p m.

The body was brought to Kollam by evening and was kept at M N Smarakam, the CPI district headquarters, where people from all walks of life including large number of party colleagues paid their last respects to the leader. The cremation would be held on Wednesday at 11.30 a.m. at Thevalakkara, near Karunagappally,party sources said.  K C Pillai was born in a middle-class agricultural family as the son of Krishna Pillai and Parvathy Amma. He is survived by wife Pathmavathy Amma, sons Babu, Sabu, Shaji, Sunil, Santhosh and daughter Asha.

He was active in Leftist movement right from his teenage days.

He has served as the district secretary for around 10 years. In the 2001 Assembly elections, he lost to A N Rajan Babu of JSS for a slender margin of 839 votes. He has also served as the LDF district convenor, Matsya Thozhilali Union district president and as Karshaka Thozhilali Union district president.
