KOCHI: The demise of cinematographer Vipindas was a shocker to cameraman Vipin Mohan. Vipin Mohan was not a disciple of Vipindas, but still he considers Das equally respectable as his guru Madhu Ambattu.

“I have never worked under Das sir, but my debut was by taking up a project which had to be done by Das sir,” Vipin Mohan told Express.

“The incident, a real coincidence, was a turning point in my career. Das Sir was supposed to work in the movie Sannaham directed by U Phalgunan, but as he was busy with some other movies, I was called to the location as a replacement to Das sir,” Vipin Mohan said.

Another coincidence is that  Vipindas again played a pivotal role in his entry into the commercial movie arena.

“After my association with some art films and black and white movies, I was awaiting an entry into mainstream cinema. And, finally, I got an opportunity to work in Balachandra Menon’s movie Premageethangal as Vipindas’ dates clashed with Bharathan’s Chaatta,” Vipin Mohan said.

“He was such a great cameraman and I am a real admirer of his works,” Vipin Mohan said.
