KOZHIKODE: BUOYED up by the unprecedented participation of girl students in the state conference, Muslim Students Federation (MSF) is all set to explore girlpower in colleges across the state. The students' organisation of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will soon launch its girls' wing 'Haritha'.

"Participation of girl students was the major highlight of this year's state conference. About 1,500 girls registered online for the conference.

They include students from Vimala College, Thrissur, Victoria College, Palakkad, and Unity Women's College, Manjeri, where MSF does not have units. This thumping response made us think of establishing a girls' wing," MSF general secretary T P Ashrafali told Express. Through 'Haritha', the MSF aims to empower Muslim girls to come out of the religious confinements and to respond to social and political issues on their own.

"Now we have the data of girls who took part in the conference. Leaders will be selected from them, committees will be formed and works will be assigned to them. Membership campaign will be launched in the beginning of the next academic year. Once formally launched, Haritha will respond to the issues related to girl students on behalf of the MSF," Ashrafali said.

MSF leaders feel that, apart from the girls meet held in 2010, not much programmes were held to tap the strength of girl students on college campuses.
