PALAKKAD: The state government will initiate measures to stop encroachment and illegal sand mining in the Bharathapuzha, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the bridge built across the Bharathapuzha, connecting Mayyanur in Thrissur district and Ottappalam in Palakkad district, at a function held at Ottappalam on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said the LDF Government has, in the last four and a half years, made record investment in infrastructure in the state. He said the government proposed to give a new look to the Public Works Department and initiate a new action plan. It would be ensured that the works would be corruption-free.

Speaker K Radhakrishnan presided over the meet.
