TRIPUNITHURA: The Valiyamma Thampuran (seniormost female member of Kochi royal family) Manku Thampuran died at her grandson Adithyan's house in Mysore in the wee hours of Thursday.

Manku Thampuran was the daughter of the late Vellarappilly Muriyassu Neelakantan Namboothiripad and Manku Thampuran of Kochi Royal Family.

Manku Thampuran of Chandra Vilasam Palace was the first chairperson of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi. As the disciple of the late Chembai Vaidhyanatha Bhagavathar, Thampuran had presented many concerts at the Vrischikolsavam of the Sree Poornathrayeesha Temple and at the Madras Music Akademi.

Manku Thampuran, wife of the late Madhavan Namboothiri, was living with her grandson Adithyan at Mysore. The late Sulochana Thampuran was her only one daughter.

The cremation was held at the Kochi royal family crematorium in the evening.

Manku Thampuran of Kerala Vilasam Palace will be the next Valiyamma Thampuran of Kochi royal family.
