ANGAMALY: Haritha Bhavanam, a unique project undertaken by the Central Committee of St George Basilica Family Union, was inaugurated here on Sunday by Syro Malabar Major Archbishop Mar George Alenchery. He launched the project by planting a saplings on the basilica campus.

The Haritha Bhavanam project is aimed at planting new saplings in the houses of all parishners of the basilica under the supervision of various units of the family union. Over 2,500 families are members in the 50 family units. The saplings will be provided by the Social Forestry Department. Basilica Rector Fr Joseph Kallarackal, assistant vicars Fr Thomas Moolan, Fr Arun Valiyaveettil and Fr Subin Kidengen, along with Family Union Central Committee vice-chairman Assisi Manjaly and general secretary Wilson Varghese, will supervise the project.

It was Mar Alenchery's debut visit to the basilica after becoming the Major Archbishop of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese. Mar Alenchery was the main celebrant of the high mass held at the basilica.

He also addressed the office-bearers of the various organisations attached to the basilica. Mar Alenchery also made a visit to Kizhakkepally and addressed the catechism teachers and students.
