Notice served on M M Mani for polygraph

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) served a notice to former CPM Idukki secretary M M Mani on Wednesday seeking his willingness to appear for a polygraph test in connection with the further investigation into the murder case of Youth Congress Leader Ancherry Baby.

The notice was served to Mani at his house at Kunjithanni. The notice sought his willingness to appear for the test at a laboratory at Thiruvananthapuram. Besides Mani, CPM Idukki district committee member A K Damodaran, former CITU Idukki secretary O G Madanan, and Kuttapan alias Pambadumpara Kuttan have also received the notices.

They have got seven days’ time to respond to the notice, after consulting their doctors and legal advisers, SIT sources said. Meanwhile, sources close to Mani said that there was little chance for Mani and others to undergo the test at .

All of them are aged around 60 years and are battling with  various ailments. If they are not willing to undergo the test on health grounds, the SIT cannot force them to undergo the polygraph test. A Supreme Court ruling in 2010 had made it clear that such tests should not be done without the consent of the individual as it would be a violation of the personal liberty; the sources said.
