NSS hits out at Pinarayi Vijayan

Express News Service

The Nair Service Society has flayed CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement that religious organisations should not cross their limits.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair said that Pinarayi’s statement was unwarranted and exceeded the limits.

Since the basis of the clash lay in the understanding made between the NSS and the Congress, the response of CPM leaders was improper, he said.

He added that community organisations had the right to criticise governments when social justice was denied to them. “When social justice is denied, community organisations have the right to protest, just like any individual citizen. Nobody who knows the history of NSS will say that we are interfering in the internal affairs of political parties. We have never done that,” Sukumaran Nair said.

He asserted that no political leader has the right to censure or threaten community organisations’ right to question social injustice. He added that NSS and SNDP had come out against the government as authorities had deliberately ignored the rights of the majority community.
