Three artists from Kerala have been awarded the Inlaks Fine Arts Award 2013. Abul Hisham K H, Arun K S and Vibin George are among the five recipients of the award.
Abul, from Thrissur, is an artist based in Hyderabad. After taking his bachelor’s degree in painting from the Government College of Fine Arts, Thrissur, he completed MFA from S N School of Fine Arts, Hyderabad.
Arun, from Thrissur, also graduated from Government College of Fine Arts. He is a final year MFA student at the M S University, Baroda. Arun switched to sculpture after his first year and started with conventional mediums. He works on farmer-related issues. Vibin George studied art history at the MS University.
Anjana Kothamachu, a visual artist who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Crafts and Sumana Som, who is doing the MFA programme at the Department of Fine Arts, Hyderabad Central University, are the other two recipients of the award.
The award includes a grant and a residency programme. The nominees were chosen by a jury comprising Indian artists and art professionals, including Mortimer Chatterjee, co-founder of the artists’ initiative Open Circle, Tushar Joag, sculptor Shilpa Gupta and artists Manisha Parikh and Jaideep Mehrotra. The 10th edition of the Fine Arts Awards were presented on Wednesday at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai. International critic and art historian Robert Storr, dean, School of Art, Yale University delivered the keynote lecture.
The awards ceremony included a panel discussion with artists Tushar Joag, Ivana Franke and Rasmus Nielsen in conservation with Girish Shahane.
