Sex racket: Sobha John remanded for 10 days

The Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (VI), on Monday, remanded Sobha John, one of the accused in the Kozhikode- based inter-state sex racket case, in police custody for 10 days.

The special investigation team probing the case produced the accused before Magistrate M R Sasi on Monday noon.

Sobha John, who was absconding after receiving bail in the Varapuzha sex scandal, was nabbed by Varappuzha police last week and was produced before the Paravoor North Judicial Magistrate Court.

The SIT registered her arrest in the Kozhikode sex racket case with the permission of the court and later brought to Kozhikode.

The SIT arraigned Sobha John as an accused following the statement by the victim that the latter was sexually assaulted at the residence of the accused in Ernakulam for two days a year ago.

It was on October 23, 2012, that the City Police busted the inter-state sex racket involving two minor girls and arrested five persons from an apartment at Parayancherri near Arayidathupalam.

Reena Joseph and Asmabi, mothers of the minor girls, who were involved in the case were earlier arrested.

Later, the police also arrested Mohammed Koya alias Mamachan, a native of Kasargod, who had taken the two minor girls to Shobha John’s flat in Kochi.

ONE MORE HELD

Chevayur Police, on Monday, arrested one more person in connection with sex racket case. Jayesh of Chevayoor was the one arrested on the basis of the statements of the victims. The police said the accused had sex with the minor girl, the daughter of accused Reena Joseph, at Paroppadi. With this, the total number of persons arrested case has become 23.
