Volleyball action gets under way

The state-level inter-collegiate volleyball championship organised by the MG University Physical Education Teachers’ Association and Adrenaline Club, Ernakulam, will be held from January 18 to February 25 in various colleges across the state. Teams from eight colleges who emerged winners in the university championships will compete in the tournament.

In Kozhikode district, the tournament will be hosted by Sree Narayana College, Chelannur. SNG College is the only team from the district participating in the tourney. SN Trust executive member P M Raveendran opened the series of seven home matches at the college at 3.30 pm on January 17. Former Indian volleyball captain Kishore Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.

The tournament will not have a final. The team which scores the maximum points will be declared champions. The winners will get a cash prize of `75,000. Sacred Heart College, Thevara, St George College, Aruvithara, St Peter’s College, Kolenchery, St Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram, Kuriakose Elias College, Mannanam, St Thomas College, Pala, and Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam, are the other participating teams.
