LDF to intensify agitation seeking CM’s resignation

The LDF state leadership, which met at the AKG Centre here on Tuesday, took stock of the situation arose out of the police action on LDF activists, including its state leaders, during the course of its agitation seeking resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the Solar scam issue.

The meeting decided to call a statewide hartal on Wednesday as the first step in a series of agitations planned for the coming days.  Briefing mediapersons about the decisions here, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan said that on July 12, Leftist trade unions would take out a Secretariat March. Karshaka Thozhilali Union and Leftist students’ unions will take out Secretariat marches on July 15 and 16 respectively. On July 19, it will be the turn of the youth organisations to take out the protest march.

On July 18, public meetings will be organised in all district headquarters to explain the political situation, he said.

From  July 19 to 21, public meetings will be organised at district centres.  A day-and-night ‘satyagraha’ will be staged in front of the Secretariat by LDF MLAs, MPs, state leaders and other people’s representatives from Thiruvananthapuram district from 11 a.m. on July 22 to 11 am on July 23, Viswan said.

On July 24, an indefinite 'satyagraha' will be launched in front of the Secretariat and at other district headquarters, he said.

Vaikom Viswan said that the attack unleashed by the police on Opposition MLAs and others was unprecedented. V S Achuthanandan, C Divakaran, CPM district secretary  Kadakampally Surendran and Kerala Congress leader V Surendran Pillai had to be hospitalised, he said. A large number of LDF workers were also injured in the police attack which was unleashed with the consent of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister, Viswan said.

He said the LDF would not withdraw from the demand for a judicial inquiry into the Solar scam and the resignation of the Chief Minister.
