P J Kurien, Dharmarajan get notices

Express News Service

The District and Sessions Court, Thodupuzha, on Wednesday issued notices to Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien and four other respondents after admitting a criminal revision petition filed by the victim of Suryanelli rape case.

Judge K Abraham Mathew posted the case for hearing on May 29.

Other respondents of the notices are the State of Kerala, Dharmarajan, a prime accused in the case, and two other accused Jamal and Unnikrishnan Nair.

The court had on Tuesday admitted the criminal revision petition filed by the victim challenging the decision of the JFCM Court, Peermedu, to reject her plea to direct Kumily police to register a fresh case in the matter in the wake of Dharmarajan making fresh revelations against Kurien during an interview to a Malayalam TV channel.

The victim had appealed before the Peermedu court to order further investigation into the matter after her move to register a case against Kurien at Chingavanam police station in Kottayam was thwarted by the police.

Her letters to the Superintendents of Police of Kottayam  and Idukki were also rejected.  A special court in Kottayam is hearing the case against 35 accused.
