Passports forged for trafficking

Express News Service

Lissy took the victim to Sharjah using the passport of another woman hailing from Kattapana.     The photograph in the passport was removed and the victim’s photograph was pasted there.  She was permitted to board plane without proper passport verification, allegedly with the help of Raju Mathew, a Sub-Inspector.

Mumbai police had made a recommendation to the Kerala police to probe the matter. A case of passport forgery was registered at the Nedumbassery police station with the victim as the first accused. The case was first handed over to the Crime Detachment Wing of Ernakulam Rural Police and later to the Crime Branch. Lissy is the third accused in the case. The Crime Branch, on the basis of the victim’s statement, registered a rape case in which Lissy is the second accused. She is also the second accused in a case of immoral trafficking.

The Crime Branch interrogation revealed that more than 120 girls were trafficked to West Asian countries for sex work. The Crime Branch had earlier arrested Santha (the second accused in the passport forgery and rape cases), Bindu (the first accused in the immoral trafficking case),  Saji (the fourth accused in the forgery case and third accused in the rape case),  Sadulal (the fifth accused in the forgery case, fourth accused in the rape and immoral trafficking cases) and SI Raju Mathew (the sixth accused in the forgery case).  The police are on the look-out for another person involved in the sex racket case. Those who raped the victim in Dubai are yet to be identified. Lissy would be produced before the Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate on Friday. Crime Branch officials said they would seek her custody for further interrogation.
