'‘Minimum Provident Fund pension will be hiked'

Kodikkunnil Suresh, Union Minister of State for Labour, has said that the minimum pension of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) beneficiaries will be increased up to `1,000.

After inaugurating the EPF adalat here on Monday, the minister said that many beneficiaries are getting insufficient amount as PF pension.

“The ministry has started steps for increasing the pension amount. The increased amount of the pension will make a liability of Rs 1,100 crore for the union ministry. I have requested   UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for taking a political decision in this matter for increasing the PF pension amount. More employees will be included in the EPF scheme by hiking the threshold salary limit of employees,” the Minister said.

Regional Provident Fund Commissioner N Gopalakrishnan, EPF committee members Aby Kuriakose and C J Jose, assistant provident fund officer P J Thomas and enforcement officer N Radhakrishnan spoke at the function. Upto 201 complaints were heard in the adalat and 166 complaints  settled.

Officials said that remaining complaints would be solved in the further proceedings by higher officials.
