Muneer vows new projects in Attappadi

Minister for Social Justice M K Muneer said that the government has plans to begin an ‘Amma Veedu’ scheme in Attappadi, where pregnant women will be given special care for three months prior to delivery.

Minister for Social Justice M K Muneer said that the government has plans to begin an ‘Amma Veedu’ scheme in Attappadi, where pregnant women will be given special care for three months prior to delivery.

He was speaking to mediapersons at the Agali panchayat conference hall in Attappadi on Monday evening, after rounding up his three-day visit to Attappadi. The minister called upon health workers to see to it that all the child births in Attappadi be taken place at hospitals.

Special schools

The minister also said that Special Schools will be set up at the panchayat-level for the differently-abled children of Attappadi. Transportation facilities will also be provided to them.

Unicef response

He said that the Unicef team has informed that they aer satisfied with the working of the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres (NRC) functioning at Attappadi, aimed at setting right the nutritional deficiency of the people in the area.

“The Unicef team has recommended only a few suggestions which include the distribution of salt with iodine content and ensuring to provide clean potable water,” he said.

Anganwadis

“The functioning of the anganwadis in Attappadi will be strengthened. Steps will be taken to identify children with protein deficiencies and they will be enrolled in the nearest anganwadi. The infrastructure facilities of the anganwadis will be enhanced. Water and electricity connections will be provided to the anganwadis,” Muneer said. The minister also directed the officials to concentrate on setting up rain water harvesting mechanisms.

MGNREGS scheme

The Minister said that complaints related to the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and shortage of employees will be addressed soon. Goat farms, dairy farms and buffalo farms will be set up. De addiction centres will also be set up in the area. “Talks will be held with the Industries Minister to plan setting up khadi units. The Mahila kisan Sashaktikaran Kisan Pariyojana (MKSP) which was begun in three oorus here will be extended to other oorus also.

Earlier, the minister also addressed the Janasabha of the Sholayur panchayat at Nallasingha ooru. “New anganwadis will be set up where there were sufficient number of children. A new building will be provided to the anganwadi functioning at Mele Kuruvampadi,” he said.

A total of 13 people have been provided assistance under the Ashwasa Kiran Scheme, he added.
