Court to hear Salim Raj's bail petition

The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-I will consider the bail plea of Salim Raj, former gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, and six others who were arrested from Kozhikode on charges of abduction, on Thursday.

Magistrate P T Prakashan, who considered the bail plea on Wednesday, posted it to Thursday as the court had not received the statements of Prasannan, hailing from Ochira in Kollam, who is the complainant. The court directed the police officials to submit the statements before the court on Thursday.

It was on Tuesday, Chevayur Police arrested Salim Raj and gang under sections 365,143, 144 and 506 of the IPC after they were picketed for more than one-and-a-half hours by local people. The locals intervened when they saw the gang manhandling Prasannan.

Rijo, 28, of Sajna Bhavan, Valiyakulangara, Ochira in Kollam district; Sathar, 38, Irshad, 24, Paingakulam, Adhanadu, Karunagapally; Junaid, 30, of Memana, Shamand, 29, and Sidhique,38, of Payikudi, were six others arrested along with the police official who is under suspension following the solar case.
