Temple Pond Cleaning may be Delayed

Express News Service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  It seems the people of Thiruvananthapuram will have to wait till September to know whether a treasure is hidden in the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple pond. The district administration has written to the temple administration committee asking it to take up the cleaning of ‘Padmatheertham’ only after the south-west monsoon.

Rumours are rife that a portion of the treasure is stashed in the pond by the erstwhile royals. C V Ananda Bose, the former coordinator of the Supreme Court-appointed expert committee to evaluate the million dollar treasure in the temple vaults, had recently called for a search in the pond as ‘’there existed a possibility.’’

In his interim report to the committee, District Collector Biju Prabhakar said the proper removal and transportation of silt would be impossible during the rains.  It is learnt that Prabahakar has ruled out the suggestion to deposit the silt at locations near the Amayizhanjan canal or Parvathiputhanar citing that it would seep back into the canals in the rains.
