State Media Awards Announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state media awards for the year 2013 have been announced.

G Jayachandran and R Krishnaraj (both of ‘Malayala Manorama’) have been selected for the awards for General and Development Reporting respectively. Information and PRD Minister K C Joseph said the jury for general reporting section comprising M G Radhakrishnan, V E Balakrishnan and Abe Jacob. A jury comprising K Rajagopal, K K Madhusoodhanan Nair and K Abubacker selected the development reporting award winner.

In the News Photography section, Samir A Hameed of ‘Malayala Manorama’ won the award for his photo with the caption ‘Iruttil thappilla njanum Keralavum’ that appeared on March 18, 2013. Jury for this section comprised C P Vijayakrishnan,  K R Meera and Sunnykutty Abraham.  K R Gopikrishnan of ‘Mathrubhumi’ won the Cartoon award for his cartoon titled ‘Cheenninayakam’ that appeared on August 4, 2013. Jamal Kochangadi, Yesudasan and O K Johny selected the winner in the cartoon category.

In the TV News category, Fouzia Musthafa of India Vision won the award for reporting. Shaju K V of Mathrubhumi TV bagged the Best Cameraman Award. The News Reader Award introduced from this year onwards will be given to Shani T P of Manorama News.

Shafeeq Khan of Mathrubhumi TV was selected for the Best Video Editor Award. All the awards carry a cash prize of Rs 25,000, citation and memento.

In the news reader category Sarath Chandran of Kairali TV and Veena George of India Vision got special mention of the jury. The jury for TV awards comprised Jacob George, K G Jyothir Ghosh and Geeta Bakshi.
