Abhaya Case: Statements of Geetha, Chitra Recorded

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here on Wednesday recorded the statements of former chief chemical examiner R Geetha and chemical analyst M Chitra in connection with tampering of the workbook containing the chemical analysis report in the Sister Abhaya case.

Magistrate Vincent Charley recorded the statement of the two accused regarding the allegations against them as per CrPC 313.

The statement of Geetha and Chitra had not   earlier been recorded based on the deposition made by former head of Forensic Medicine C Radhakrishnan before the court.

Geetha and Chitra, on Wednesday, told the court that they had given only the genuine report. They said that only correct findings were given, and added that there was nothing more to add to the statement.

The court posted the case to October 20 after the defence advocate sought time for producing more evidence.

Geetha and Chitra are charged with allegedly tampering with medical reports, destroying evidence and conspiracy. 

Sister Abhaya’s body was found in a well in the Pius X Convent Hostel, run by the Knanaya Catholics, in Kottayam in 1992. The unnatural death case was written off by investigators till it sprung back to headlines in 2007 after a media expose about alleged forgery of the chemical analysis report.
