KAKKANAD: The children’s home here scripted history on Monday, with all the seven inmates who appeared for the SSLC examination passing with good grades.

The children braved many odds, including the problems usually faced by orphans, lack of basic facilitates and financial difficulties, to achieve the 100 per cent pass.

A girl who scored five ‘A+’, two ‘A’ and three ‘B+’ tops the group of winners. The others mostly passed the examination with one or two ‘A+’.

“We are all happy that we have passed the SSLC examination. It was our ambition to pass SSLC with good grades.

“We achieved it with the support of everyone here, and we are thankful to our teachers and officials of the children’s home,” one of the inmates told ‘Express’ with smile.

It is the first time in the history of the children’s home that all the students passed the SSLC examination.

Last year, only seven out of the ten girls who had appeared for the examination passed.

“For the girls it is a huge victory as they faced many hurdles in achieving it, and their hard work and dedication bore fruit. We will help them to go for higher education in areas of their choice,” said Child Welfare Committee chairperson Padmaja Nair.

Meanwhile, the authorities of Valsalya Bhavan at Vaduthala, another children’s home, informed that all of the six inmates of the institution who appeared for the SSLC examination passed.
