Express News Service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The financial irregularities detected in the Janasree Sustainable Development Mission of Venjaramoodu unit  have reached over Rs 1 crore as per the latest findings on Tuesday, said V Jayachandran Nair, Circle Inspector, Venjaramoodu police.

The large-scale corruption was unearthed by the police on Monday during a raid at the Janasree office following the complaints filed by a group of people who had received recovery notices from banks regarding loans taken through Janasree. Though the preliminary findings on Monday indicated that the unit had committed malpractice to the tune of Rs 40 lakh, it is expected to increase in the coming days.

“Though we are yet to receive the exact details from the banks, we can conclude that it is a multi-crore scam.

After obtaining the details, more irregularities are expected to come to light. It is nothing but a large-scale scam as we are getting more and more complaints against the Janasree unit. So far, 59 people have lodged complaints.

Their number is likely to increase in the coming days,” Jayachandran told ‘Express’.
