VS Writes to BSNL CMD on Staff Stir

Express News Service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has written to BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava, urging him to immediately intervene in the ongoing strike of BSNL employees. In his communication, Achuthanandan has said that the indefinite non-cooperative strike called by the employees from August 12 has brought the BSNL network to a standstill.

This has affected consumers during the Onam season and private operators are cashing in on the opportunity. Considering this there should be an urgent intervention to put an end to the strike.

“The Casual Contract Labourers Union had staged organised protest from June 22, raising various demands, including wage hike. The indefinite strike was launched on August 6, since there was no response from the officials. Later, the management took vindictive action against the leaders of the BSNL Employees Union and Sanchar Nigam Executive Association for declaring solidarity with the striking employees,” Achuthanandan said, adding that during the talks, the management had agreed to issue interim relief to the employees and withdraw the action initiated against them.

However, later, the management went back from the decision.
