THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy convened a meeting on Wednesday with Kerala Water Authority and Public Works Department to expedite the water supply projects in his constituency Puthuppally. The projects would benefit eight panchayats in Puthuppally.
The bottlenecks in five water supply projects, which are yet to be commissioned, were examined.
These include Puthuppally-Meenadam project; Vakathanam project; Manarcad project; Ayarkunnam-Kooropada-Pampady project; and Akalakunnu-Mutholi-Kozhuvanal project.
Though work on the projects had started in 2013, each of it has hit various obstacles. KWA officials say that the issues are primarily because PWD would not give clearance.
The following are some of the important decisions taken to resolve the bottlenecks.
Officials have been instructed to ensure that water supply in Vakathanam panchayat happens at the earliest.
A sum of Rs 10.6 lakh has been allotted as restoration charges for the road running from Velloopparambu in Manarcad panchayat to MRF Tank in Vijayapuram panchayat.
The Chief Minister instructed that pipelines be laid before the construction of Kottayam-Puthuppally-Karukachal road.
The Construction Corporation has been asked to include the expenses towards this in its estimate.
