KARIPUR:In a first, the police have registered a case on Wednesday against Kozhikode native Riyasul Rahman alias Riyad alias Riju based on verified information about his direct involvement with IS. It is learnt the police are also investigating the role of his friend in Ras Al Khaimah in UAE in connection with his disappearance.

The Karipur Sub Inspector registered the FIR under IPC sections regarding terrorism, including UAPA and war against India-friendly countries in Asia.

“The UAE police have been inquiring about the whereabouts of Riyad who’s been missing since April.  Riyad, 25, born and brought up in Ras Al Khaimah, studied in an Indian school there. With an inclination towards IS since last year, he’d been giving inspirational speeches about IS to his kin,’’ Intelligence sources said.

“We have filed only an FIR in the case. All we know is he’s connected to the IS. We’ll have the details only after investigation”, Malappuram district police chief Debesh Kumar Behera said.
