Express News Service

PALAKKAD: In what is perceived as yet another case of indoctrination bid in the state, the Cherpulassery police have arrested two persons in connection with the abduction of a 21-year-old girl. The duo have been identified as Sheena Farzana of Chethiamthodi, Parambur, Palliparamba, Pattikad in Malappuram, and Abdul Nazar.

The girl was studying in a private college in Cherpulassery when she was befriended by a youth who reportedly tried to radicalise her. The youth later left for Saudi Arabia. However, the girl took up a job in Perinthalamanna and stayed in the house of  Sheena Farzana. Sheena later took the girl to Islamic study classes in Manjeri and Ponnani, and purportedly tried to indoctrinate her into Islam.

The girl was introduced by Sheena to Noufal, who had read Islam in Yemen. When the girl did not turn up at her house in Cherpulassery during weekends, her parents who were from a middle class family of farmers, informed the police, who registered a missing complaint on July 15.

The girl was produced in the Kerala High Court by the police who said that she expressed willingness to go with her parents. The family of the girl has also been provided police protection. Police said that Noufal was still in Saudi Arabia and that he is suspected to have links with extremist groups.
