Writer detained for 'insulting' National Anthem in Kerala

The complaint was filed by the Yuva Morcha activists who said in their complaint that Kamal C Chavara 'disrespected' the national anthem in a Facebook post.

KOZHIKODE: The city police have detained writer Kamal C Chavara following a case registered
against him at the  Karunagappally police station for 'insulting' National Anthem in a Facebook post.

According to Kozhikode (North) Assistant Commissioner E P Prithvirajan, he was taken into custody from Eranjipalam on Sunday morning as per directions from the Karunagappally police. A native of Chavara in Kollam, Kamal C Chavara had been staying at Kunnamangalam in the city since one year. A case has been registered against him under Section 124-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), pertaining to sedition.

The complaint was filed by the Yuva Morcha activists. They said in their complaint that the writer disrespected the national anthem in a Facebook post. He will be soon handed over to the police team from Karunagappally, police said. The arrest is yet to be recorded.
