Actor Kollam G K Pillai Dies

KOLLAM: Film and serial actor Kollam G K Pillai, 83, died at Chavara near here on Saturday night. Pillai, who has been away from the spotlight for the last four years due to vision impairment, had acted in over 4,000 dramas and 80 films. He acting career spanned over six decades. He stopped acting after he encountered problems with his eye sight during the shooting of the serial ‘Nilavilakku’.

Born to K P Gopalakrishnan and Kunjiamma in 1950, Pillai was an active presence in the theatre scene and acted in films while he worked as a KSRTC conducter.

He is survived by wife Madhavikuttiamma and children Jayasree, Usha Kumari, Vijayasri and Bindusri children.Balachandran, Radhakrishnan, Vijayan and Jayaprakash are his children-in-law.

During the school festival in 1950, Pillai had acted along side N Padmalochanan, who later became CITU leader and Kollam mayor.
