KOCHI: The police team investigating the sensational Jisha murder case has gathered evidence suggesting that Ameerul Islam, the sole accused in the case, had entered the compound of the victim's house the day before she was murdered on April 28.
As per the chargesheet filed by the investigation team, Jisha's mother Rajeshawari in her statement told the police that on April 27 she heard the sound of stones being pelted on the roof of their house.
The next morning, the family members found a packet of 'beedi' and lighter on a pile of roof-tiles in the backyard of the house. Friends and relatives of Ameerul informed the police that the accused had been using the 'Ajith' brand of beedi, and identified the lighter used by him.
On the day when the murder was committed, Jisha had bitten the index finger of Ameerul's right hand when the latter assaulted her, causing injury. Several witnesses in the case informed investigators that they had spotted the bite injury on Ameerul's hand before he left for Assam.
Those who spotted the injury include Ameerul's roommate Sujal, his brother Badheerul Islam, cousin Asadulla and his wife Sulthana Beegum. It was also found that the 'Slippon' brand of footwear recovered from a place near the crime spot was purchased by Ameerul from Athira Textile and Footwear, Kuruppampady, on April 17. Ameerul had shown the footwear to his roommate at Vattolipady.
The police collected evidence suggesting that Ameerul had used multiple SIM cards and mobile phones. When arrested from Kanchipuram, the accused was using a SIM card - procured using the ID of one Udayakumar - that was different from the one he was using at the time of committing the crime. The police have collected details of the other SIM cards used by the accused.
Rubeel, Ameerul's 19-year-old stepson who used to live with him at Kuruppampady, in his statement told the police that the accused used to abuse ganja occasionally and that he was an alcoholic.
