THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More institutions in the state issuing certificates are likely to use the DigiLocker, an electronic platform, after the success of introducing it in the e-District portal.
According to officers with the Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM), universities will be the major users in issuing electronic certificates in the ‘cloud-based’ platform. “Nine universities have shown interest in the DigiLocker facility. Among them A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University is likely to be the first to issue digital certificates,” said a KSITM officer.
A university can issue e-documents to individuals in the standard format as well as make them available electronically. The varsity can act as a requester where the certificates of students and employees can be verified. e-District Kerala, a portal that delivers 24 revenue certificate services and government payment services, has contributed 15,10,494 documents so far to the DigiLocker facility, said the officer.
According to him, more government departments such as the Public Service Commission, Motor Vehicles Department and Pareeksha Bhavan have shown interest.
DigiLocker is a platform for issuing and verifying documents and certificates digitally, thus eliminating the use of physical documents. Public who sign up for a DigiLocker account get a dedicated cloud storage space that is linked to their Aadhaar number. Organisations that are registered with the digital locker can push electronic copies of documents directly into individual lockers.
