THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala police on Saturday registered a fresh FIR against former state police chief T P Senkumar for allegedly forging documents to draw full remuneration even after he went on a leave from the service for eight months.

The complaint said that Senkumar had allegedly accepted remuneration for his leave by forging medical certificates and prescriptions while he was the director general (DG) of Institute of Management in Governance (IMG). Senkumar was accused of taking Rs 8 lakh from the government as salary while he was on an eight-month leave.

Senkumar had rejoined as IMG DG after eight months and informed the government he was undergoing treatment for some ailment. But the Vigilance had found he spent the time at Annamanada in Thrissur and at Ernakulam instead of consulting a doctor at the ayurveda centre.

This was proved by tracing Senkumar’s mobile phone records. It was also found that Senkumar was given just two medicines from the hospital during the eight-month period.

Senkumar was removed as the state police chief in June last year soon after LDF came into power. He had applied for leave on personal grounds on June 7 last year with half-salary and later submitted a request letter stating the same reason to the chief secretary. He had continued to request the same for the next eight months.

Earlier, chief secretary Nalini Netto had recommended the deputy general of police (DGP) to file a case against his predecessor and to initiate a comprehensive probe. The government gave the recommendations following the report submitted by vigilance DySP Bijimon of special investigation unit in Thiruvananthapuram. The Vigilance had done a quick verification based on the complaint lodged by A J Sukarno, former corporation councillor.

The Museum police registered the case based on the instructions of current state police chief Loknath Behra. Cantonment assistant commissioner K E Baiju has been entrusted with leading the probe.

This is the second FIR registered against Senkumar. The first one was related to the allegations of making remarks of spreading religious hatred in an interview with Samakalika Malayalam weekly. In this case, he was arrested and let off.
