Another infant dies in Kerala's Attappady tribal settlement

The boy, born to a woman hailing from Vellakkulam, died at the Thrissur Government Medical College hours after the delivery on Tuesday.

PALAKKAD (KERALA): A one-day-old infant died due to cardiac ailments and breathing issues at a hamlet in Attappady here, one of the largest tribal settlements in Kerala.

The boy, born to a woman hailing from Vellakkulam, died at the Thrissur Government Medical College hours after the delivery on Tuesday, health department sources here said.

With this, the total number of infant deaths in Attappady has risen to 11 this year.

The infant, which had some defects in the heart valve, developed breathing difficulty soon after he was born at the Kottathara Super Speciality Hospital here.

Though he was rushed to the Thrissur Medical College, he was declared dead by night, sources added.
