KANNUR: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the Central government for presenting the union budget despite the demise of sitting MP and former Union minister E Ahamed.

Speaking to reporters, the chief minister said that it was unfortunate and improper to go ahead with the budget. “This is disrespect to the departed leader, who has served the nation for so long. The centre has hurt the sentiments of the members with its decision to present the budget in the same parliament building, where E Ahamed collapsed. It was a grave error from the government to go ahead with budget, when respect and tribute should be paid to a senior leader of Ahamed's stature, "he said.

"Ahamed always maintained a good relationship with all and kept the interest of the nation in United Nations. His death is a great loss to the state and country," the chief minister said.

78-year-old Ahamed passed away in the wee hours of Wednesday at RML Hospital in New Delhi. The MP, from Kerala's Malappuram constituency, suffered a cardiac arrest during the President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament on Tuesday.
