THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Acting on the alleged encroachment over the public property by Kerala Law Academy Law College (KLALC), the revenue officials demolished the main entrance pillars of the college on Sunday.

The revenue department decided to raze down the pillar structures after the college management failed to pull it down within the time stipulated by Revenue Department in its notice.

According to sources, the management was given 24-hours time to comply with the order. However, the management had only removed the main gate of the college on Saturday even after they were served the notice to demolish the pillars. This led the officials led by tehsildar K R Manikandan to proceed with the demolition. "Though we served notice to demolish the pillars by Sunday morning, the college authorities failed to comply. So we were forced to take action," Manikandan told media persons.

The officials also added that the cooperative bank and the canteen hotel functioning in the campus will also be served notices in this regard. According to officials, the bank would be given 14 days time to vacate.

The action from the government is based on a report filed by revenue principal secretary P H Kurien who notified that the main entrance of the college was constructed on a 'puramboke' land.
