8 more succumb to fever epidemic

The fever epidemic, which has been wreaking havoc resulting in over 300 deaths in the state, continued unabated with eight more deaths reported in the last two days.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fever epidemic, which has been wreaking havoc resulting in over 300 deaths in the state, continued unabated with eight more deaths reported in the last two days. 

When three persons died of suspected dengue fever (Alappuzha-2 and Ernakulam-1), three persons died of viral fever (Thiruvananthapuram-2, Malappuram-1).  The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) also reported one death due to leptospirosis  from Palakkad and one H1N1 death from Malappuram
There was a spurt in the number of viral fever cases on Wednesday, with as many as 31,000 cases reported. Dengue cases also saw an increase with 845 suspected cases and 192 confirmed cases reported from various districts. Leptospirosis cases registered an increase, with the DHS reporting 21 cases. Besides, five persons tested positive for the H1N1 virus.
