THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nalini Netto was the first woman to become the state’s chief electoral officer, a post she held for eleven years during which four major elections and several by-elections passed off without an untoward incident.

The pre-poll process was totally computerised during her tenure.

Netto is a brave officer who took on a powerful minister who attempted to sexually harass her in 2000. Her revelation and pursuit for justice is an encouragement for womanhood.  Netto’s husband is retired IPS officer Desmond Netto.

The couple’s only daughter Anisha Netto is a PhD scholar.
