THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala police chief T P Senkumar on Tuesday described as ‘fake news’ reports that he had issued public instructions governing the use of profile pictures on social media.

Denying that he had issued any such instructions, Senkumar said he would ask police officers to check how the news spread.

The reports had claimed that Senkumar had posted the instructions on his official Facebook page. However, no such instructions were found in his account.

Last year, Senkumar had issued a circular to fellow police officers calling for restraint if they were active on social media. It advised police personnel not to use as profile pictures any photograph showing them in uniform. They were also barred from using their official email IDs or mobile phone numbers to sign up for personal FB and Twitter accounts.
