CPM hands over house key to Kerala's custodial torture victim

KOCHI: The CPM Cheranalloor Local Committee handed over the keys of a house constructed by it to Leeba Ratheesh, who allegedly suffered torture in custody at Cheranalloor police station around four years ago. CPM district secretary P Rajeev gave her the keys of the 600-sqft house at a function held the other day.

The house consists of a hall, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a verandah. The CPM had spent around `7 lakh to complete the construction of the house.

Leeba, who had been a domestic servant, was indicted for robbery and framed in a fallacious case.

She allegedly underwent harsh torments in the police lockup, in which she suffered spine injuries and became unable to go to work.

Along with Leeba, her husband and brother were also beaten-up. They were constantly threatened by the police to withdraw the case. CPM local secretary K S Shalu presided over the meeting. Area committee member K J Divine delivered the welcome address.
