ALAPPUZHA: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the suspicious death of Gopinathan Pillai, a petitioner in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, is waiting for the forensic report to pinpoint the vehicle that rear-ended the car in which Pillai was travelling.

According to Cherthala DySP A G Lal, the forensic team has collected evidence from the vehicles in custody.“We cannot find any suspicious involvement in the case. Three trucks are in custody suspecting that one among them rear-ended the car. The drivers of these trucks are also under surveillance,” Lal said.
Pillai, 78, died on Friday in a road accident at Vayalar junction on NH 66 near Cherthala.

The accident occurred when he, along with his brother Madhavan Pillai, were en route to Kochi to consult a doctor. According to the statement of Madhavan Pillai, he applied sudden brake to avert collision with a lorry in front. He lost control and his car crossed the median and collided with another lorry.
