KOZHIKODE: In a major operation, the police on Saturday seized 1,000 kg of gelatine sticks from a national permit lorry at Mukkom and arrested a Tamil Nadu native in connection with incident.

According to the Mukkom police, the seizure was made during an inspection carried out based on a tip-off. The explosives weighing one tonne of gelatine stick and sodium nitrate were seized from the Tamil Nadu registration lorry that was proceeding to Wayanad from Coimbatore. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Mathesh, 40, a native of Salem, was arrested and he is being interrogated. Police suspect the explosives were smuggled from Tamil Nadu to Wayanad.
