8 SDPI men arrested for violence against police in relation to Hadiya case

KOCHI:  The Ernakulam Central Police on Wednesday arrested eight SDPI workers in connection with the attack on the police during the High Court march organised by SDPI against the court order in the Hadiya case. The Muslim Ekopana Samithi (MES) had organised the march on May 29, last year. 

The cops said the 35th to 42nd accused in the case, namely Salam Sulaiman, 34, Thammanam; Asharaf Hameed, 48, Palluruthi; Sudheer Yusuf, 38, Palluruthi; Alsad Abdul Gafoor, 28, Fort Kochi; Aneesh Abdul Aziz, 35, Cherlai; Anaz Azeez, 32, Mattancherry; and Sidhique Sulaiman, 49, Fort Kochi were arrested during the raids conducted to find the accused in the murder of SFI leader Abhimanyu in Maharaja’s College this week. 

During the march, around 3,000 MES activists were booked for threatening the High Court judges, disrupting traffic on Banerji Road and raising provocative slogans. Besides preventing the cops from discharging their duty, the activists also pelted stones at them and attacked them.
