High court orders ESI to grant ‘ward of insured person certificate; boy fulfills his dream

THRISSUR:  His dream is to become a doctor. But when technicalities threatened to spoil P P Vishnu’s dream, the High Court came to his rescue, allowing him to apply in a medical college under the ESI quota though the last day of application was over.

Vishnu, who hails from Mannuthy, got a NEET rank of 12,000 in OEC quota while in the general list his rank was 30,000. “My friends who were below me in NEET ranking got admission. That’s when authorities from my mother’s school told us about the ESI quota. I did not have a certificate to prove it. By the time I got it, the last date of application was over,” said Vishnu. P6
