KOLLAM: It was soon after the Valentines Day in 2017 that Vyshak and Malavika Babu, both undergraduate students of CHMM College in the suburbs of Kollam, made the biggest decision in their life: To elope and get married. They found it the final option, after the college teachers, principal and parents stood against their marriage, despite both being from the same religion.

While the college did not want another case of love affair on the campus, for the parents, the marriage seemed a bit premature and between families of unequal economic status.

Malavika packed her bag on the very night she realised her parents would find another match to her. When her mother was away at a temple, she left her home at Paripally and joined Vyshak who was waiting nearby on a bike.

Hight Court quashes college move to oust the couple

Kochi: Describing love as "a blind and an innate humane instinct," the Kerala High Court quashed the decision of a college in the state to oust Malavika Babu and Vyshak for love affair and eloping. The court issued the order on the petition filed by the two of Varkala CHMM College for Advanced Studies.
