THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite the detailed investigations into the mysterious disappearance of Jesna Maria James, who vanished without a trace in March, coming a cropper, the police are now exploring whether the 22-year-old B Com student had indeed left the country.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, replying to a submission by P C George on the continuing mystery, said the police are in touch with the Regional Passport Officers(RPO). A 15-member team headed by Thiruvananthapuram Range IG, which also includes cyber experts and a woman Inspector, is currently handling the case.
Until now, the investigators have scoured one lakh phone calls in a bid to track down Jesna who went missing from Vechoochira while en route to her aunt’s place at Punchavayal, near Mundakkayam.
Look-out notices urging the public to pass on info on possible sightings of the girl and other crucial leads have been published in major national as well as vernacular dailies in all states, with the sleuths fanning out to Bengaluru, Mysuru, Velankanni, Tiruppur and Kancheepuram, according to the CM
The police had announced a reward of Rs two lakh for information on Jesna after attempts to locate her proved unsuccessful. Her father James had lodged a missing person complaint on the same day the girl belonging to ‘Kunnath’ in Vechoochira went missing.
Recently, the Kerala State Women’s Commission had directed the police to intensify the search for the young woman. The panel had, suo motu, registered a case earlier in connection with Jesna’s disappearance.
