THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Unrest is brewing within the Congress over the party decision to give its Rajya Sabha seat to the Kerala Congress. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman and senior Congress leader PJ Kurien, who was a serious contender for the seat, lashed out at AICC general secretary and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Kurien alleged Chandy schemed and plotted the whole move to gift the RS seat to the Kerala Congress.

Former KPCC president and senior party leader V M Sudheeran came down heavily on the leadership. Speaking to mediapersons here, he said the self-respect and pride of Congress workers were sacrificed with the move.

Sudheeran said, “It’s suicidal for the Congress party in the state. Kerala Congress had left the UDF on their own and if they’re coming back, it’s well and good. But giving away a rightful RS seat to them can in no way be justified.”Saying that he was speaking out of his consciousness, Sudheeran added the party would have to pay a heavy price for this decision in the days to come.
