Steps to ensure the quality of 'vallasadya' offerings at Aranmula

The Palliyoda Seva Sangham, the apex body of 52 palliyodams participating in the annual Aranmula water festival (vallasadya), will initiate measures to ensure the quality of offerings by devotees.

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Palliyoda Seva Sangham, the apex body of 52 palliyodams participating in the annual Aranmula water festival (vallasadya), will initiate measures to ensure the quality of offerings by devotees at Aranmula Lord Parthasarathi temple, beginning on July 15.

Palliyoda Seva Sangham president Krishnakumar Krishnaveni told Express the online registration of vallasadya offerings, selection of contractors and rotation system in the conduct of feast among contractors were part of the measures.

The sangham meeting next week will shortlist catering contractors for the offerings. The sangham will select 15 contractors and give the message that ensures the quality of feast distributed. On an average, 15 offerings will be held a day till October 2, Krishnakumar said.

“Exploitation of devotees in the name of the offerings will not be allowed,” Krishnakumar said. He said the sangham hopes the number of vallasadya offerings to cross 500 this season. “The registration for the offerings already crossed 200 and would cross 500 this year,” he said.  Krishnakumar said the annual Uthrittathi Water Festival will give thrust on traditional style. He said procession of palliyodams will be given more focus by allowing only members of palliyodam karas as oarsman, ‘vanchipaattu’ and decoration of snake-boats.
