KOCHI: Expressing their helplessness to trace the missing 21-year-old girl Jesna Maria James of Ranni, police on Monday informed the High Court that all procedures have been completed to publish a lookout notice across India with the help of the Public Relation Department. As part of the probe, about 250 people were questioned, statements of 130 witnesses were recorded and around 1 lakh call details were analysed, the police said. The state police chief also declared a reward of Rs 5 lakh for those who gave useful information to trace the girl.
The police filed the statement in response to a petition seeking a directive to produce the girl before the court. The police said the Regional Passport Offices of Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode and Malappuram have verified that passport has not been issued in Jesna’s name. The Kottayam district police had placed 11 information boxes titled “Jesnaye Kandethaam” at certain points like SD College, Kanjirappally, where Jesna studied, the ladies hostel where she stayed for sometime, bus stops and places near Jesna’s house. The inquiry is on about the 50 letter obtained from the boxes.
All information, including those turned out to be erroneous and baseless, were verified with great care and attention. But no useful information was obtained, police informed HC.Police also added that the personal diary of the missing girl was also verified as part of investigation. A team led by Perunad CI searched the forest areas of Parunthumpara with the assistance of Beat Forest Officers and Forest Watchers.
The court reserved its verdict on the petition.
